Where We Work

IIDA is legally registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in  Somalia and Kenya. It is a member of regional and global CSO networks, including the Eastern African Sub-Regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI), the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and State-building (CSPPS), the Somali Women Agenda (SWA), the GIZ/BMM Regional Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Network, and the Humanitarian Development Peace (HDP) Nexus Coalition.

IIDA has a fully-fledged head-office in Mogadishu and Coordination Office in Nairobi, with satellite offices in Merca, Dhusamareeb, Guricel, Dhoobleey, Beledweyne and Hargeisa, and a total of 76 staff on board. The Secretariat office in Nairobi is staffed with key administration and finance staff that ensures strict compliance with partners’ financial and reporting requirements, as well as regular contact with partners based in Nairobi. IIDA also has presence and implements projects in North Eastern Kenya and Nairobi (Eastleigh).

IIDA Africa Women’s Development Organization (IIDA) is a women-led non-profit organization founded in 1991 in Mogadishu, Somalia by a group of pioneering Somali women leaders to provide relief and emergency services to women and children affected by the civil war in Somalia.

Our Mission

To advocate for the socio-economic rights of children, youth, and women, promote peace and reconciliation among warring communities, and foster their integration into society. We work towards non-violent conflict resolution, policy formulation and implementation, women empowerment, transparency and accountability. We advocate for high standards of service delivery, education, economic self-sustenance, and improvement of health. We conduct research, defend human rights, establish partnerships and mobilize communities towards gender equality.
